6000 ft above sea level high in the Austrian Alps and totally full of WILD trout lies the Falkertsee.
Gobsmacked, Astounded and Lost for words were just a few of my initial reactions when I first visited this lake and took in the surroundings. This lake and location is without doubt in my mind a FLY FISHERMAN’S PARADISE. So you can Imagine how p***ed off I was that I had NOT brought my Fly Fishing Tackle with me. So let’s go straight to the next day when I came back with the rod and line and an assortment of flies that as of yet had not been tried by me outside of the UK.
The lake gave up in the first 2 hours a total of 9 quality trout of which the biggest (a rainbow) weighed in at just over 4lbs and my first experience of Austrian mountain lake Fly Fishing, one that I have since repeated many times.
In addition to the main lake, there is also a pond with very easy to catch trout for kids to fish in. Whilst I didn’t try the pond myself I did see kids pulling out 1-2lb fish
This area being so high in the Alps also has its own Winter Ski and Board resort consisting of everything you would expect to find, Lifts Pistes Ski Schools etc.
